Report of March 19, 1998.

Budget: The Operating Budget will be passed from the County Executive to the County Council on April 1, 1998. The County Council will hold a public work session with the Board of Education on April 16, 1998 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. While no public comment is allowed, it is a valuable experience to witness the exchange of information.

Placement of Relocatable: The Board of Education has approved the final list of placement of relocatable classrooms. It includes 11 new portable classrooms (4 state and 7 county) for a total of 60. The County Executive has approved the funding transfer of $275,000 from existing capital projects. It goes to the County Council on the tentative date of April 7. There is an additional request of $250,000 from the county for a total of $525,000 for the new relocatables. In addition, the Board "made a commitment" to find funding for 2 additional classrooms to be placed at Church Creek and Meadowvale. This would bring the total to 62 and the need for an additional transfer of funds. Information will be forthcoming if there is a need to express public support for these transfers.

George Lisby Memorial: The Board of Education is seeking public input on the recommendation of a facility to be named in honor of Mr. George Lisby. Board discussion focused on the three Aberdeen area Elementary Schools, Hillsdale, Bakerfield, and Halls Cross Roads. Background is being investigated with regard to the names of those schools. Aberdeen Middle and High were also discussed. Please offer your comments at the General Meeting of the Board of Education on April 20 at Fallston High or in writing to the members of the Board of Education.
