Board
of Education
The Board of Education has complete control over local school matters
subject to the limitation of the Public School Laws of Maryland and the
Bylaws of the Maryland State Board of Education. The responsibilities
of the Board include: establishing policy for the operation of the local
schools, authorizing the appointment of teachers and other staff members,
securing money for operational needs and building programs, representing
and expressing the views of the community in educational matters, and
interpreting the educational needs of the community in educational matters,
and interpreting the educational needs of the community.
Steps to
present Public Comment to the Board of Education
- First, arrive
about 15-20 minutes early.
- Request
a sign-in card from Don Morrison, Teri Kranefeld or Lynn Sweatt prior
to the beginning of the meeting.
- Fill out
and return the card before the meeting begins.
- If your
topic is on the agenda, your comments will be made prior to the consideration
of that item on the agenda; however, if your topic is not on the agenda,
you will be asked to speak in the beginning of the meeting under GENERAL
PUBLIC COMMENTS.
- If you REPRESENT
a group (you're speaking on behalf of your PTA) you will receive FIVE
minutes to speak. You will be the only member of your group allowed
to speak on this topic.
- If you are
speaking as an individual, you will receive THREE minutes.
NOTE: Public Comment is taken only during regular business meetings
unless the Board specifically directs Public Comment. Public Comment is
not normally taken during Board work sessions. You can check out the agenda
